forja

Forja (meaning “to forge” in Portuguese) explores the preservation and transformation of memory through hand-built ceramics, paintings, and found objects. Drawing inspiration from time spent in Lisbon and visits to Sintra and Costa de Caparica, the works reflect moments of connection to both natural and urban environments, capturing the raw essence of the places  encountered.

The ceramic pieces act as imprints of the world around the artist, forged from the textures of seashells, barnacles, and oysters, alongside architectural details like metal balconies. These elements are reimagined and abstracted, embodying the process of creation and transformation, much like the way memories are moulded and reshaped over time. Accompanying sketches and paintings expand on these forms, portraying both the ceramics and vivid impressions of the landscapes that inspired them. - Steffie, 2025
